IDU Reflection - Exactly 520 words

In Spanish, we had been told to create a website that would help the grade 7's to learn about basic Spanish words. The MFL and IT department had decided to join forces and let us learn about interdisciplinary learning. Interdisciplinary learning is one of many ways to learn over the course of a curriculum. This is a method can help bring students to a new awareness of the meaningful connections that exist among the disciplines. Therefore, I had created a website entitled as Spanish, as combing 2 different subjects into one overall. I feel that personally creating an attractive website would inspire the grade 7’s because it had been created by people that are more familiar with their interests due to the fact that we are only 2 years old and we’ve recently experienced going through grade 7 and we would know more about the latest “trends” therefore it would more appropriate for people our age rather than other people. I enjoyed it because it doesn’t just help and learn 7th graders but it also help us ourselves to learn how to conduct a website too therefore everyone is on the same page since we both get the benefits. I found it a bit challenging to overcome the deadline for the creation of the website itself, because I think personally my own creation of my website, could have been a lot better if I were to have more time and not get stressed out since we had several assessments due in that week. If I were to improve on my website, I would have used my time wisely and I could have used a more easy kind of template to make it 10 times easier for me and not to speed even more time on the design itself to make the process faster and to add more information to help the grade 7s develop their knowledge even further. The benefits in learning a interdisciplinary unit is that it develops our thinking critically skills, we could recognize bias, acknowledge and appreciate ethical concerns, and many more. Even though it may learn about critical thinking, it does not challenge learners in terms of critical thinking and does not let you search in detail and yet it also sets confusion as to what integration really means toward students. I benefited because it develops my collaborative skills and learning and our interdisciplinary unit also in my opinion seemed to be fun and enjoyable for us to create a website and provide it for the grade 7’s for them to learn about the basics skills for the Spanish language itself as I have learnt all about that in my previous years whilst I was in grade 7 so my knowledge helped me produce my website that I have created. After learning about this interdisciplinary unit I started to understand that I am more capable to link other subjects together to study due to the fact that I had created I technology designed website which is IT related but at the same time the website was everything to do with the Spanish language for grade 7.

Webpage Design Task

1. http://coolhomepages.com/

This website is for people advertising and giving people ideas on how people could develop their own websites and gives them ideas if they actually want to make their own webpage, the webpage would definitely help them out, in this situation. This webpage have clear information, clear titles, subtitles, Ads, etc.... Due to all of that it keeps the readers/audiences eyes attracted to the webpages. There are bright vibrant colors to keep the audience attracted. Therefore overall it is a average webpage design.

2. http://ty.com/

This website is for people wanting to buy their kids stuffed animal toys such as nemo and little pet shop with reasonable and appropriate pricing. This webpage has extremely bright vibrant colors to keep the audience attracted as well as thier titles and subtitles. They also promote themselves by showing their social medias accounts. They also have roll over images with deals such as/an example could be that if you buy 2 or more stuffed animal toys only then there will be free shipping to any country in the world (international shipping). Therefore overall it is a average webpage layout because there are similar webpages compared to this webpage.

3. http://daltonmailingservice.com/

There are dull colors such as different shades of grey that would make the reader/audience bored. the home page is very limited with information however, there are subtitles (as buttons) that send you to another page as in one of them send you and show you information about: "Service offerings", "Frequently asked questions", "Request quote", "History" and the last one is "Contact us". Even after you click into another page from the subtitle buttons they only show a limited amount of information towards that specific topic about "Dalton Mailing Service, Inc. smarter faster for less". Therefore overall it is a bad layout.

Peer Evaluations for Tech Fair 2016

Group 1: JP and Danish 9BB
What was the project about?
Solar Panels
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
The idea was very unique.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
To give a demonstration and to correct the spelling mistakes on the power point. They could have taken photos of the process of the creation or a video.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
No, because it doesn't look interesting and I don't think people would take extra time to learn about their project.

Group 2: Tanya 9BB
What was the project about?
Rubix Cube Solver
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
It was very unique and caught many people attention/eyes and was very organized.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
If you include
include more information about the project itself, for example the pros and cons.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
Yes, because it catches many peoples attention with the idea itself and would be amazing if she made a quiz and gave out chocolate/sweets/candy/etc., if she did that she would have a high probability to win first place in the whole Tech Fair Competition.

Group 3: Jash and Seo 9BB
What was the project about?
Sports App
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
It was creative and well organized and put together.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement?
To prepare for present and practice presenting before hand and at least try to look confident and try to add my software and add more information about the App itself for example who did what, was it equal among them, etc.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
Not really due to the fact that they would have thought more out of the box and created more than just a game.

Group 4: Kabir and Eduardo 9BB
What was the project about?
Software threats
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
The power point looked really nice
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
Next time prepare the project before hand and practice before hand because they weren't confident at all. And next time also create something that we would also understand. Plagiarism?
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
No, because it wasn't presented with much detail and they were just reading off the text from the power point and they didn't understand what they were saying; I know this due to the fact that they hesitated from the questioned that they were asked and didn't answer them correctly from the class.

Group 6: Khalid and Irwan 9BB
What was the project about?
Basket Ball Game on Scratch
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
It creative and seems interesting to play that makes the game addicting
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
They needed to post it on Scratch.com for us to see the game itself and for them to demonstrate it.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
Maybe if they actually post it on Scratch and it was a very basic idea.

Group 7: Daoud 9BB
What was the project about?
Research project - What are the different uses of solar panels instead of electricity?
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
He explained the process of his project in detail and was quiet confident during his presentation, however he wasn't able to answer the questions he was given to the class.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
Try not to be distracted or to distract other people whilst presenting, try not the read off the text on your notes and write it in your own words. You could have shown pictures and not talk extremely quick.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
No, because the project was too basic and there was no physical product.

Group 8: Micheal and Danial 9BB
What was the project about?
Talking  Cardboard Robot
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
The idea was unique and was capable for their ability in Technology.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
Try not to be distracted or to distract other people whilst presenting, try not the read off the text on your notes and bring the actual final project/product to class to show us.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
Yes, because people nowadays like music and the fact that this is a speaker and robot so its more suitable for our age (PG 15).

Group 9: Ridha, Nivedya, Emma and Aslesha 9BB
What was the project about?
Ev's Remote Detector Robot
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
It was a unique idea and the power point really backed it up and was very detailed and explained well.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
The 3rd program that they presented didn't drop the tire on target therefore they should work on that program and they weren't confident in presenting and should've practiced before hand.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
Yes, because some people would take the time to investigate more about the project however only if they would be more confident while presenting.

Group 10: Ammar 9BB
What was the project about?
Environmental Engineering Research Project/Mini Experiment
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
It was very detailed and informative and I knew more than I knew before I watched his presentation.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
He talked too fast due to the fact that I couldn't catch up to where he was and didn't understand what he was saying, he could have talked with a bit more enthusiasm because he sounded very tired and dead while presenting, even though he had a quiz and the end...there could have been prizes like candy if you got a question correct so that people people would be interested.
According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
No, because the project was too basic and there was no physical product and wouldn't be interesting anyway.

Group 11: Ishita 9BB
What was the project about?
Nanotechnology Research Project/Website/Mini Experiment
What are the positive things you liked about their presentation?
It was very detailed and informative and I knew more than I knew before I watched her presentation.
Is there anything specific that you would like to give them as a feedback for improvement
She talked too fast due to the fact that I couldn't catch up to where she was and didn't understand what she was saying, she could have talked with a bit more slower and there could've been a quiz to interact with the audience more due to the fact that the audience looked like they were going to fall asleep....Copy Paste??

According to you do you think their project needs to be part of the Tech Fair 2016?
No, because the project was too basic and there was no physical product and wouldn't be interesting since its kind of science related and not much related to IT.

Tech Fair Idea 2

2. Hubsan Q4 Nano Quadcopter
By: Unknown...

quadcopter
The Nano Q4 Quadcopter is officially the smallest remote control Quadcopter in the world. The little toy comes with an equally miniature remote control but flies as if it was a full size helicopter. The range is simply awesome and the speed and height it can go is as good as any larger remote control helicopter I’ve seen. In all honesty, I haven’t actually managed to make it go out of range because I’ve always had to land it for fear of it going so high up that I completely lose site of it.

Being so small, there are a one or two draw backs. It isn’t exactly ‘easy’ to control. It is very sensitive to touch and you have to tune it each time you fly it to make it fly upwards in a straight line. Once you’ve got the hang of this it becomes pretty straight forward but then the next problem is that the chargeable battery life only lasts for about 5 minutes fly time. This hasn’t really been a problem as of yet because it is so easy just to plug it into the computer to charge, but it may not be ideal if you were taking it out for an entire day.

Other than that, it seems to fly well, is a lot of fun to try and control and is powerful beyond belief. If I had to liken it to something else, I would say it is the ant of helicopters. Absolutely tiny, but capable of doing everything a full sized helicopter can do making its tiny size deceptive for how much it can actually achieve.
